Traditionally outward looking, the city of Varna and its district acquire a key role for the development of the national economy in the context of the intensively ongoing processes of economic globalization and integration. Varna Port and Varna International Airport are major infrastructure units in the region. Varna district has the highest rate of digitization of the telephone network in Bulgaria. The number of ISDN lines, however, is still limited, which offers a field for potential development. The city of Varna is a major telecommunications terminal of the optic-fiber highway, which connects Bulgaria with Turkey, Rumania, Ukraine and Western Europe. That, together with the large number of highly skilled human resources and IT firms, which operate in the region, renders Varna district suitable for investment in the high-tech sector. The GDP of the district amounts to 5,4% of the national GDP. The most dynamic sector is tourism with an annual growth of more than 20%. Varna is also a centre of international fairs and exhibitions. In the city’s five universities, the navy academy and the six colleges of work 2,500 scientific experts and 30,600 students are being educated. Research and development is carried out in six scientific institutes in the fields of fish resources, marine research, hydro and aero dynamics, water transport, shipbuilding and metallography.



DOBRICH district

One of the most beautiful plains in Bulgaria is Dobrudja. In its heart is situated Dobrich district. The arable land is very rich and the harvest is big. It is on this land where the Bulgarian state was established 1320 years ago. The picturesque Dobrudja Black Sea coast is world-famous for its natural beaches, modern towns and interesting historical heritage. The international sea resorts Albena and Rusalka attract more than 120 000 tourists annually.

Silistra district is situated in the northern part of the Republic of Bulgaria, on the bank of the river Danube. People from different ethnic groups work and live together here: Bulgarians, Turks, Roma, Armenians, and others. The administrative center of the district is Silistra - a town, which dates back for thousands of years and has had an important role in the history of Bulgaria. The district consists of 7 municipal centers with 118 towns and villages.
The district is a traditional agricultural region. The climate and the nature are suitable for modern agriculture development on fertile soil and for the production of environmentally-firendly products. There is stress on the growing of cereals and industrial crops, the perennial plants and vegetable growing.
Priority in the development of Silistra district is the construction of ferry connections Silistra-Kalarash /Romania/ and Toutrakan-Oltenitsa /Romania/, as well as the ro-ro terminal Silistra-Reni /Ukraine/, which will establish the shortest road from and to Turkey and the Middle East. Silsitra is crossroads of transport corridor No 7 along the Danube, which also establishes the connection with Western Europe.
The district has well-constructed infrastructure, suitable for the different productions and alternative tourism, as well as a potential of educated and highly qualified experts in different spheres.



ROUSSE district

The district of Rousse is one of the 28th territorial units in the Republic of Bulgaria. It is situated in the north-eastern part of the lower Danube basin and its territory covers 2784 km2 . The north border is the Danube river, the east - the district of Silistra, the south - the district of Targovishte, and the west - the district of Veliko Tarnovo. The landscape is mostly lowland and partial hilly. The climate is continental - with warm summer and cold winter. The territory of Rousse consists of 8 municipalities: Borovo, Biala, Vetovo, Dve mogili, Ivanovo, Rousse, Slivo pole and Cenovo. The district center Rousse is the biggest city with a total number of 170 000. The district of Rousse has 5 towns and 77 villages.
Main rivers in Rousse territory are: Yantra river - 286 km and the river Roussenki Lom - 197 km. Rousse is the main water cross road from East to West and railway- and auto cross road from the North to the South.The region is crossed by the European corridor No. 9, which connects Helsinki - through Holland with Alexandroupolis - Greece.The Rousse port is the biggest one on the lower Danube with modern equipment and a Ro-Ro-terminal. It maintains simultaneously the passenger and cargo ships and provides a fast service of stocks for European markets. There is a ferry-boat-line to the Romanian port Giurgiu, and the Ukraine port Reni.



TARGOVISHTE district

Beautiful and picturesque are the lands of our district. Nature has been generous to the people. It is as if a great artist’s pallette has endowed with rich hues the golden autumn, the white winter, the emerald spring, the wheat summer filled with scents.
This district keeps the history of Thracians, Romans, Slavs, Turks and Bulgarians. World famous is the Thracian Treasure of Kralevo.
Near to the Old Bulgarian capitals, this land constitutes an integral part of the Bulgarian ethnic, spiritual and state territory. The geographical location of the town of Targovishte combined with the prospering crafts and commerce during the Renaissance favoured its establishing as a market centre with a yearly Fair, which became at that time one of the greatest trade events in South-East Europe.

VELIKO TURNOVO District

Veliko Turnovo district is a unique combination of rich cultural and historical heritage, beautiful nature and modern technology. Its administrative center - Veliko Turnovo - was the capital of the Medieval Bulgarian State. As a reminder of these glorious times now stays the Tsarevets Fortress and its majesty is further enhanced by the Tsarevgrad Tarnovo - Sound and Light show, reproducing the history of Bulgaria. Veliko Turnovo district covers parts of the Danube Plain, the Northern Balkan and the Balkan Range itself. The Region’s geographical location makes it a crossing point of highest-class transport lines, carrying national and international traffic. Several European transport corridors pass through its territory. Veliko Turnovo district is also a railway and power center. A privilege is that it uses the services of the international airport for cargo and passenger chartered flights in Gorna Oryahovitsa. Among the greatest advantages of Veliko Turnovo district are the three universities and the numerous vocational high schools training a number of people.



GABROVO district

LOVECH district

The district of Lovech lies in the central part of Bulgaria. Two thirds of its territory consists of hills and mountains. Nature has been extremely generous to this district which is a cross point of the Balkan range and the Danube Plain. In the district there are 8 reserves . There lies the bigger part of the enormous national park Central Balkan Range. The reserves of Steneto, Boatin and Tsarichina are UNESCO monuments.
The Lovech district is one of the territories most ardently keeping the national traditions. Of interest for the Bulgarian and foreign tourists are the one and only in Bulgaria Museum of Traditional Arts, as well as the unique national Fair of Arts and Crafts in the village Oreshak, the Lovech Historical Museum and the Levski Museum. Among the 684 monuments of culture are the Troyan and the Glozhene Monasteries, the architectural reserve of Varosha in Lovech ( one of the biggest and most carefully preserved in Bulgaria ), the magnificent Pokritia Most ( the Covered Bridge ), over the Ossam River, the unique in Balkans, designed by the mason master Kolyo Ficheto. The rivers and the dam lakes are wonderful resting spots.
The fascinating charm of the mountains could be felt if you visit the 10 mountain hostels. You could regain your health in Shipkovo, Chiflic and Krushouna where there thermal springs, or else in the mountain resorts Ribaritsa, Cherni Ossam, Apriltsi and Beklemeto.



PLEVEN district

The citizens of Pleven district see their future in a prosperous European region along the Danube river with an intensive agriculture and wide implementation of high technology in modern industrial enterprises. It is very important that Pleven district is close to international transport roads and this fact will contribute to the development of cross-border cooperation and will facilitate the integration process in the Balkans and in Europe.
The climate is temperate - continental with hot summers and cold winters but low snowfalls. Three big rivers flow through the region: Iskar, Vit and Osam, all of them flowing into the Danube. The district is poor in natural resources, only fire-clay, stone and gravel pits, oil and gas are to be found.
