The district with administrative center - Kyustendil is situated in the South-Western Part of Bulgaria.Its western boundary coincides with the state borders with the Republic of Macedonia and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The district has various relief - fertile valleys and canyons, separated by hillocks and mountains. The picturesque sunny valley of Kyustendil, situated at the foot of Ossogovo mountain, is an inexhaustible source of health and beauty, the climate is mild (transitional continental with Mediterranean influence), there are hot mineral baths and abundance of fruit and vegetables from early spring to late autumn. During the spring the town is filled with the fragrance of fruit trees in blossom and the refreshing verdure of Hisarluka hill. The closeness of the mountains, the pine forest and the luxuriant vegetation make the summer fresh. From a geo-strategic point of view, it is important to note that the district falls into the cross-border cooperation area with the Republic of Macedonia, as well as in the contact zone of the cross-border cooperation territory with Greece. The traditionally important route: Western Europe - Balkans - Asia Minor has passed through the Region of Kyustendil since the Middle Ages. The district enjoys rich cultural and historical heritage from the ancient past, through the Middle Ages to the epoch of Renaissance. Kyustendil district is also characterized by extremely favorable conditions for the development of tourism and cross-border cooperation in the fields of social service, economic development, SME support, and other.
