Administrative centre of the distirct is Sliven - one of the oldest cities in Europe. Thracians, Romans, Slavs and Hellenes lived here throughout the ages. Sliven is a city of rich history, cultural inheritance and unique folk tradition. Sliven district is situated in the south-eastern part of Bulgaria, 110 km within international highway E-773 from Bourgas port - the biggest Bulgarian port on Black Sea.
Sliven district has favourable natural and climatic conditions, well developed technical and social infrastructure. All these factors increase the opportunities for the development of environmentally friendly agriculture, food processing industry, machine building and tourism.
