Beautiful and picturesque are the lands of our district. Nature has been generous to the people. It is as if a great artist’s pallette has endowed with rich hues the golden autumn, the white winter, the emerald spring, the wheat summer filled with scents.
This district keeps the history of Thracians, Romans, Slavs, Turks and Bulgarians. World famous is the Thracian Treasure of Kralevo.
Near to the Old Bulgarian capitals, this land constitutes an integral part of the Bulgarian ethnic, spiritual and state territory. The geographical location of the town of Targovishte combined with the prospering crafts and commerce during the Renaissance favoured its establishing as a market centre with a yearly Fair, which became at that time one of the greatest trade events in South-East Europe.
Presently we are facing the challenges of the period of transition to market economy and ensuring competitiveness of our enterprises on the international market. The district’s assets being the favourable geographic location, well developed technical infrastructure, preserved natural environment and high qualified labour force to ensure the potential abilities for developing agriculture, tourism and processing industry. The district proposes a model for ethnic tolerance based on the mutual consideration and respect among the residents of Targovishte district, where for centuries on Bulgarians and Turks have been living.
